What to check on any label before you buy — including ours

We make Rootévia, so read this section knowing exactly who wrote it. The checklist still holds, and we're content to be judged by it.

• Ingredient order. INCI lists run biggest-first, so the first two or three names are most of what you're buying. On our label, the first two are the conditioning-base esters that carry and spread the botanicals — printed first because they are first. • Leave-in or rinse-out. This changes the routine, the time cost, and the per-use math entirely. Rootévia is leave-in: drops on, massage, done.
• Fragrance, dyes, silicones. Check whether the scent is an added fragrance or the ingredients themselves. Ours has no added fragrance, no dyes, no silicones.
• Dose control. A dropper gives you counted, repeatable amounts. An open bottle gives you a guess.
• Allergens. Read for anything you react to. In our case, that means wheat germ oil.
• The claims. A cosmetic oil can nourish the scalp, offer moisture to a dry-feeling scalp, condition and soften hair, and add a natural-looking shine. Claims beyond that — regrowing hair, stopping loss, treating dandruff or any scalp condition — are drug and medical territory. • Return terms. How long is the window, does it run from delivery, and are opened bottles included?
